Routes

3rd stage:
DOUZ-EL BORMA 466 km
Link: Douz – El Faouar 43 km
Special: El Faouar – Pipe track 341 km
Link: Pipe track – El Borma 82 km
The competitors will get to the very heart of the matter with this first “real special” which will be the largest of the Rally. The 50 first kilometres will be virtually all off-road in small white dunes and vegetation. Only a few cart tracks leading to wells will be visible. So the indications in the road-book will have to be carefully followed to find the crossings and not to remain a prisoner of the sometimes, very soft sand. Once out of this section, the competitors will find a well known and classical part of the Rally with the pass of Bibane leading to Ksar Ghilane. The passing of Ksar Ghilane will mark the end of sand. The track will become faster, remaining technical, with many undulations, sand spits and stony sections. Once again, the headings will have to be carefully followed. The competitors will join the famous pipeline and there, they will again find sandy sections which could cause problems. The last 30km of the special will be at high speed on a huge plain. The 80 km link leading to the palm grove of El Borma will allow both men and machines alike to have a well deserved rest after this first big stage.
